7 ways to stay warm in winter weddings

So you want to get your wedding glam on but how do you show off those cuts and sleeves if you find yourself huddling under a cardigan?

Here are 7 tips to stay warm without compromising the style factor:

1. Sleeves

Long sleeves with embellishments or embroidery bring a new twist to your outfits. Get some well-fitted winter-ready blouses sorted with your saris or whatever, and if you’re really cold, wear a thin long-sleeved layer underneath that for extra warmth. Think long-sleeved anarkalis with a thermal hidden below!

2. Layering

Add a jewelled or embroidered jacket onto any ensemble and you’ll thank us later while you enjoy the night, shiver-free. If a jacket just won’t go with your outfit, wear your dupatta draped broadly across your front, or a beautiful shawl.

3. Hidden leggings and camisoles

For those among us who really fill the chill, some thin black leggings under your skirts can add a sneaky extra cold defence. Just make sure the waist of the leggings doesn’t show. Some crafty pin-work can sort you out, or just ensure your blouse (if it s a long one) covers it. Camisoles under a suit also help!

4. Silks and velvets

These heavier fabrics will keep you snug, and should be worn in the winter as they’re often a bit too warm for the summer.

5. Covered toes

Covered toes, whilst they may look stylish, will not do you any favours as your toes get numb. Opt for ballet pumps, cute jutis or other shoes where your toes are hidden.

6. Dhotis

The dhoti, traditionally worn by men, has made a comeback in women’s fashion. Take advantage of this and put on a pair as they’ll keep you warm. Go for a pair with tighter fitting at the bottom, as this prevents cold air from rushing in.

7. Dance

Not that you really need an excuse to dance, but getting that heart rate up can help you stay that little bit warmer.  Keep moving!

And for post-party damage control, leave the laundry and dry cleaning to us. Avoid the frustration of cold hands and clothes hanging for days on the washing line (after all, without the warmth of the sun, things slow down).  Keep yourself warm, schedule an on-demand delivery with Launderette!
